Salute to cadet command Sgt. Maj. Ivyanna Williams, of Broadmoor High School, who led the Pledge of Allegiance at Thursday`s School Board meeting. Ivyanna was introduced by retired Lt. Col. David Marshall Jr. who said Ivyanna "leads by example, prioritizing self-discipline, service and excellence in every endeavor." Ivyanna, 16, is a senior with a 3.0 GPA. She is a member of the Poetry Club and the basketball team. After graduating, Ivyanna plans to pursue a bachelor`s degree in theology from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette.

Thanksgiving came early for pre-K to second-grade students and selected families at Progress Elementary School on Thursday. Through the dedication of fifth-grade teacher Erica Courtney, the school handed out Thanksgiving food boxes to eight families for the 10th consecutive year. In the cafeteria, students and their parents shared an already prepared Thanksgiving meal featuring turkey and stuffing.

The Indians (9-3) advance to the state quarterfinals for the first time since 2003 to play the winner of Madison Prep and St. Charles.

Thanks to a generous donation from the United Healthcare Community Plan, about 200 families from Glasgow Middle School will enjoy a more plentiful Thanksgiving. Principal Erin Howard, along with her team, organized the distribution of food boxes and whole chickens for families to pick up at the school on Thursday. "We`re so grateful to have community partners like United Healthcare and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank supporting our Glasgow families this year. With rising food costs, feeding a family at the holidays can be stressful for many families, and these partners have taken a little of that stress away," Howard said. She added the federally-funded Project Seed Grant has allowed Glasgow to create partnerships in the community that offer students the opportunity to "dream bigger than they ever imagined possible.鈥�
